I’ve been staying in John’s room for four weeks while job hunting, biking, and doing random projects. I had a flight return flight from Chicago on FRIDAY cause ANNE got m arried. I boarded an aircraft in LA at 7:30 am on Friday. It connected in Atlanta. At the Atlanta airport, I got a message from Emily and a separate message from bob saying we didn’t’ have a hotel to stay in Detroit anymore cause there was a big hub-bub re: room reservations, deposits and that sort of thing. It sounded mostly interesting cause all of Sam’s other guests also had to find new places to stay cause he was banned from staying there. Turns out they were gonnna charge Anne’s credit card for a bunch of rooms so Sam went in there with $800 in cash and threw it over the register at them. Apparently, they don’t like money so they called the cops on him. So we had to find a new place and it was the Marriott. It was a glossy looking place with all the amentities, some of which were not filled with water (pool and I guess cups considering there was no free breakfast). There was a piano themed entrance though and an ATM that cost $4 to use.
Oh, so I got to Chicago and took the Blue line to the Brown line to B+E and kate was watiting there with a green shirt on. We had to go to Tinley to get my sax. We stopped at the “SOX warehouse”, the custard stand for pumpkin custard, two places for bathroom and snacks, and we got lotto tickets at the White Hen .There was a total pile of punks. Bob said to the 17YO at the register, “is that your boyfriend” and pointed to some young kid next to the ice and she said “NO BUT MY BROTEHR WAS HERE EARLIER”… and then apparently she thought we had been outside watching her for a long time so she started talking incoherently about how she couldn’t get the donuts open an hour earlier as if we already knew the story. Then we got a mega millions and I asked the lady at the register for her phone number so we could call her later to get the winning numbers. I later realized that her resistance to give me her numbers wasn’t just cause she’s slow and unable to process requests. It was mostly cause she thought I wanted her number, as in her house number. On the way to Detroit, we saw that the mega millions went up by like 10M so we didn’t win the big one I guess.. Also, I accidentally crumpled up the ticket and phone number print out at the Burger King immediately after buying it.”
We drove to bob’s parents place off of the lake in Michigan. There are a lot of rooms and it had been repainted since the last time I was there. Some of the walls have half brown and half crème. We had drinks and I practiced Wind beneath my wings. We accidentally left the door to the car open all night but the car started anyways in the morning. We left late cause we were still on Chicago time so we missed brunch with the bride. She met us at some Mexican place in downtown Detroit. They forgot to charge us for a VIRGIN margarita. We ate and then Anne brought us back to the hotel where we took a nap. I didn’t nap, but Kate, Emily, and Bob did. I watched a show about the moons and then took a shower. The shower head was of high quality. The wedding was at 6:30 but we got there at 5:30 and had mini-champagnes in plastic glasses on fancy doilies. It was pretty fancy and civil until Estiban or Emilio or whatever his name was barged in and had a grumpy face. Then some girl ran up to him and went “WHAT”S THE MMMMAHHHHHHH_____TURRRRRR???” an dhe said “nuhghghghghgh-thhhhhiiiiinnnnn
We danced a little and talked to the dj after the ceremony. We couldn’t make requests because he only plays music that no-one has ever heard of. I had about four pieces of cake and some tacos. The booze was limited to beer and wine. The groom’s father was supposed to break dance but he mostly shook his fanny and pointed at people. Everyone had glowsticks… it was a total rave. The photographer was more of a guest and less of a photographer. We couldn’t make sense of all of her “not” photographing.. She mostly danced around and stayed quiet. At one point Anne asked Bob to tell her to photograph, but I’m not sure this happened. We stayed until maybe 11 or something and then took a cab ride back to the hotel.. The ride back cost twice as much as the ride there but we think it had to do with the fact that there were “two people” driving us back. They were brothers. They are considering starting a tow-truck company and discussed things like they had just met for the first time : basic conversations about big things. Like favorite movies or middle names. They were hilarious and imitated the Aflack commercial and were generally amazing. They both wore glasses.
We left the Marriott on Sunday around 7am . the road was long and winding back to Chicago but we MADE IT! Kate drove for a good portion after bob started swirving from being exhausted.
Puppets! Croissants! Climax! Munchkin! Sweaty pumpkin! Pock Marks!
