Sunday was really good. I met Anasuya at the Staples Center to see the Harlem Globetrotters. We just missed the Star Spangled Banner. It was being performed as some short lady scooped our popcorn. The HGT won by 69-62, despite Special K's injury. Rainmaker was on fire!
After that I met up with Beth at the USC wind ensemble concert. They played this stuff :
Frank Ticheli: PostcardRichard Strauss: Serenade, Op.7Percy Grainger: SuiteAnthony Plog: Flute Concerto Ticheli: SanctuaryTicheli: Blue Shades.
This was the best wind ensemble I have ever heard. I had chills for two hours. Beth and I sat in the second from front row and heard every flourish and growl made in the reed section. Blue Shades was obscene. The principal oboe player couldn't manage to get her A out for tuning, but would otherwise DESTORY every passage with insane darkness, emotion and haunting vibrato. The Strauss was unbelievable. Eb clarinet had his moments of greatness. No real solo passages for the most part, but managed to make it to the forefront of most pieces with riduclous amounts of volume and control. IT WAS FREE!
Monday at work, these new contractors came in to get samples. Our designer came running in the room 1/2 way into the meeting and threw up in the bathroom. Apparently, one of the guys breath was so bad it made her heave!
Also, I picked up my lawnmower, weed wacker, and seed spreader from Judit. They are currently being rained on.
